Some news regarding the new new G70
It is in chinese but at least you can see the benchmarks out
http://www.hardspell.com/hard/showcont.asp?news_id=14372&pageid=3099
Sweet!!!
you can actually even buy them

LOL!!!
and i Think there is still an Ultra version to follow
The official NDA (non disclosure agreement) only expires this afternoon at 2pm GMT, but there are some very interesting numbers floating around, especially Oppainter overclocking that card like the madman he is!

apperently it overclocks very well aswell Gamos
Hmm, judging by the game benchmarks on that Chinese site, there's hardly any improvement over the 6800 Ultra o_O?
Looks to me like it'll probably be cheaper to get 2 6800 GTs in SLI and you'll get nearly the same performance...
Well, I am curious to see how ATI counters this with their R520.
The SLI scores, although very impressive, just does not inspire awe like the 6800 series did. It is hardly faster!
Maybe this is why nVidia have been relatively quiet about the 7000 series?
Seems like the weakest upgrade between series' ever :(
5000 was the weakest......
7000 weak too
Conclusion only by even numbers when getting a Nvidia
No Shrimp, I just think the Geforce6800 series gave us so much more than we ever expected. Heck, my Geforce6800 Vanilla card (that sits in the mid level/budget level range), outperforms the last generation's top performers, the Radeon9800Pro/Geforce5950Ultra. When has that happened before? Not since Voodoo2 days!
I do suspect nVidia holding back on an Ultra part to see what ATI brings to the table and I am also sure we will see some miracle Detonator drivers right before the ATI part ships.

I am tempted to agree, except for the fact that full SLI support isn't that pervasive yet and certainly non-existent in older games. So the gains you'll get from a 7800 will actually be practically useable, however meagre, while your SLI gains will kick butt in the future.
I am very interested in getting the new 3D1 from Gigabyte, which sports two 6800GT processors on one board. The performance figures are insane and the price should be the same as for one 6800 Ultra.
Stop using my [TM] [C] [R] [BBQ] font :P
From Sybaritic it seems the 3D1 is a mere R3756!! WTF?!
/me thinks of buying a PCIe mobo

Best of both worlds!
pretty dodgy though.
You are aware that the article is dated November 2004 right? With nVidia opening their licensing to Via and Sis, and ATI with their Crossfire, I doubt it will be such an achievement for much longer.

I dont care about that, its just interesting.
You could whack a single R520/x900 and the 7000 series on there..

A Terrible Investment
Hahaha, good one. :)
I am not brand loyal, I am loyal to bang-for-buck.
This round I am more excited to see what ATI brings than about the GF7800.
Well I've been burned, and have see a few others get burned too, by ATI, so I'm keen on sticking to nVidia ;).
And with ATI's crappy Control Centre thing the only avaialble option in coming Catalyst releases, THANK GOODNESS I'm not an ATI fanbooi. I think I'd rather jump in front of a bus than be forced to use that thing regularly.

I'm with Gamos on this one. Bang for buck! There was no ATi answer to the 6800 vanilla's cost price, especially in SA, back 6-7 months ago. Same reason I got my 6800GT for just under 3K. No other 16 piped ATi could have been bought at such a price.
ATi is always late... how long did it take for them to bring out their own X800 vanilla version? I hope that for this round, they can get things out the door a bit quicker.
Otherwise, I'm afraid to say that if ATi products continue to be so uncompetitively priced against Nvidia in SA, I'll continue sticking with Nvidia...
A loss to all hardware suppliers im sure.
:P
I don't need 16 pipes, I just have one BIG one.

Just to quickly mention, I got that exact card,
And it is insanely fast, it is absolutely worth it, especially since I upgraded from a FX5200, Now now, dont laugh,
Just note that the Gigabyte 3d1 is only supported by 1 motherboard, the um... crap cant remember, so you will have to buy the correct board as well. Think K8NXP-SLI. If u interested i will have a look for the exact model number. Also this boadr supports only an AMD 64 processor, although the NVidia drivers for 64 don't support the SLI YET. The 32 bit xp os is still the way to go.
mu 2c, since I have just been thro the excercise.

I'd say arsehole!
You like having 16 arseholes?

guys quoted from one website
where you okes reckon there is no diff between the cards
it becomes cpu imited and not the card
" It is important to remember that we tested at resolutions of 1600x1200 and higher because lower resolutions are CPU limited without AA and AF enabled. In many cases the GeForce 7800 GTX don't show much difference in performance with and without antialiasing at lower resolutions. This kind of data doesn't give us much useful information about the card. We have truly reached another plateau in graphics performance with this part: pushing the card to the max is all but necessary in order to understand its performance characteristic"

Awesome stuff Fatman, but I think you have the 6600GT 3D1, no?
The 6800GT 3D1 is still on the way.
This is what it's going to look like.
