Voice Chat and ISDN :(

Dunno if its just me or if it’s the norm for ISDN



When receiving voice chat from team players, 90% of the time I just get the portrait of the guy speaking and no sound/voice. If im lucky I might just get a muffled word or three.



Could this be a bandwidth problem? Max with ISDN64 is 8K/s and in a large ctf/ons/tdm game im already uploading like 2.5K and downloading 4-5K which is nearly all my bandwidth. Ping is around 70-90ms for team and 50ms for duel.



Or is it a Sound Card issue??

Currently my settings are as follows:



Use Less Quality for Internet Voice Chat

Voice Chat Volume Max

Voice Chat ticked (obviously)

Use System Driver ticked

Hardware3d w/ EAX



Using Audigy2 ZS and 5.1 sound

I have is setup for best quality. I also get alot of junk but most times i can hear the guys.

There is also a setting for the distance you can hear the comms from just check your setting, i'm not sure what mine is on but will let u know.

Try turning of eax and just use software sound there is no real advantage in using eax with UT, mine has stuffed me around with eax on before.

I'm also on ISDN and I've got exactly the same problem. I'm guessing it's a bandwidth thing. :(

I beg to differ. EAX knocks the framerate a bit, but the increase in sound quality is well worth it.

But as i see it it's you ppl that play with EAX that can't really hear anything, have you tried putting it off & listening if you can hear ppl chat then??? Oops sneaky said the same thing!! :/

I play on ISDN & i hear voices perfect(not in the insane type of way!), Naut & myself are on the voice coms the whole time when we practise for clannies & such!!

I was referring to game sound quality and not voice sound quality. But I'll still give it a shot. The UT engine's implementation of EAX has always been kinda stuffed, so turning it off might very well fix the voice comms problem!

i had a similar problem with my audigy 2 and EAX. the solution i found was to change the EAX Presets on your EAX console. i was using the advance EQ presets, and switched to Enviroments, which solved the problem (and UT is still set to EAX)
