Got it. Pings are exactly like 512K package, downloads still at 40-50K/s (for now).

Thanks man

But still weary tho since that whole deal about interleave and fastpath or whatever. Also some guys still get 60+ ping with their dsl even tho telkom switched most back to fastpath, and some still complain about packetloss.

Still dunno about making the switch, n giving hellkom sum more money

How's the 192Kbs package for running more than one player in online games (like unreal or Warcraft 3) at the same time?

yoyo,

Guys, 1 thing to keep in mind. ATM telkom have not sorted out there packages 100%, so if you have a 192k line and a 512 ISP package you will get 512 speeds.

It is not line dependant on your speeds, but infact dependant on your ISP contract.

IE, if I connect with my 384 package I get 44kb/s d/l, but if I connect with my bro's 512 package I get 55kb/s speeds, all on a 384 line.

This may change in the future, but it still works like this atm.

But telkom seem to be getting onto these things, as they are starting to clamp down on multiplae users on one account, and if they notice such anomolies, they are restricting the account to just 1 user.

Anyhoo, cya :)

Is 192 k the cheapest solution for a flatrate? If so, what is the best deal (isp etc?) without having to sign two year contracts, and the big question, how much does it cost?
I need the info for internet phoning, not gaming, so i guess that also needs a good latency, obviously not quite as good thou as for gaming.
Also tried some research myself, but everyone is trying to sell their product if you search on the web and what better source is there than a bunch a computer enthusiasts that would kill for a good line :D

Haj wat do ya mean by ISP contract? Thought all adsl ISP subs are the same (eg telkom R250 for 3gigs irrespective of whether its 512, 384 or 192)

Sam,

you get different contracts, ie, the 384 contract gives you the 2 gig shaped contract, and the 512 lets you choose, most ppl take the 3gig unshaped.

So basically if you use the 2gig shaped you get 44kb/s, no matter what line (192, 384 or 512). If you take the 3 gig unshaped you get 55kb/s on any line (192, 384 or 512).

So basically the line speeds at the moment are dependant on your ISP connection or contract.

Dunno if this will change in the near future, but seeing as though it can be changed from month to month, and there is no contyract, its no biggie if they ever throttle the line, cos then you can just change to the contract that suits your line :)

From what I read from the telkom site and the way the telkom person I ordered my adsl with said the 2gb cap account is only available for the 384 and the 3gb cap is available for all the diff line speeds. So if what u say is true, telkom are just screwing themselves and every1 else at the same time

take a look here

How's the 192Kbs package for running more than one player in online games (like unreal or Warcraft 3) at the same time?

With 2 ppl playing ut the homedsl192 u'll more than likely start getting lag. The last time I checked, with voice enabled UT2004 uses up to 40k up and down. and since u only got 64k up with the dsl192. But I have not tested it don't know any1 with dsl192. I did however test 2ppl playing ut2k4 on 64k isdn and there was definetly extra lag.

Lowering my netspeed to 2600, I could play a laggless internet game with 2 players on 64K. I doubt upload speed is that important, so I would guess that with 192K you should be able to do 2-3 people easy.

Yes I will agree with Gamos here... We also had a 64K @ one stage & my brother & me, together on the line, each of us got 80 ping... which is not to bad @ all. But mind you we had a ISDN Router, could've made a difference I'm not sure.

Nope, I had an internal ISDN adapter with ICS, also 60-80ms pings. I haven't tested ADSL though.

When we all play online while at a LAN at The Proven's place, we are up to 8 people online at the same time on his 512 ADSL connection and it works just fine. I'm sure 192 will handle 3 players.

I would recommend the 384k package instead of the 192k. The 192k is only R100 cheaper and considerably slower in terms of up and download rates.

I have 384k, and ive been throttled down to 40kb/s, i used to get 54kb/s, so yah, i think Telkom is bringing the throttling in, or they figured out a way to throttle us, so ya, ive tried many different accounts, all were 512k accounts, and yet i never manage to get above 40k/s, it sits on 40k constantly.

weird goz-meister, I sit on 55kb/s still on my 384k line. Maybe they just don't like you (and who can blame them) :P

well they have not done hajas exchange yet
they have to implement it otherwise no one would get the 512 package at alll.
no point in paying more if you can get the same service at a cheaper price

Gamos what was the total charge of the installation (the removal of the isdn2a back to analogue and installation of the adsl). I know normal adsl installation is R400 and sum change, but do they also charge for gettting rid of the isdn? I emailed telscum like a week ago and still havent got a reply from them.

the 404 installation charge is for upgrading your current line to ADSL. if you have no line at all, then there is an additional charge to the 404 for the line installation charge. so, if you already have a copper line, then 404 is all you're paying for installation.

They only charged me the adsl installation fee when i converted from isdn to adsl
