Right now, everyone who owns an X800 or X850 series graphics card, or who goes out and buys one off the shelf, already supports ATI’s CrossFire multiple graphics card configuration
Now that is awesome. i was expecting some sort of new ATI card to come out to do an sli config or something like that. but any normal x800 or x850 can be used.. all you have to add is the crossfire card..
I bet this had made many ATI fans grin from ear to ear.. i sure am grinning..
i am just about to upgrade my PC.. iv'e made up my mind now, Radeon Xpress 200 MB and ATI X800 it is..
Thanks Whoop..

Thanks Ripper, looks great! :D
No no no! Hang on a second there!
You NEED a crossfire card. Despite your current X800/X850 being compatible with the crossfire chipset/mobo, you still need to fork out for a Crossfire card made only by ATI if you want to run duel cards.

people like me would be happy, cause if i was to go for nvidia sli, it would be alot more expensive..
i still would have to buy an sli board anyway..
people that already have an x800 card, would need to buy the crossfire and motherboard..
would that not be alot cheaper than buying another nvidia 6800 and an sli board?
and looking at its setup, it sounds alot better than the sli solution because of the way it works.
I'm not quite following.
With nVidia you need a Geforce6800GT/Ultra + Nforce4 SLI mobo + another Geforce6800GT/Ultra
With ATI you need a X800/x850 + Crossfire mobo + crossfire card.
You can SLI 6600GT cards aswell, so if anything nVidia have the less expensive sollution. If you already have an ATI card however, then yes, you are correct.
I wouldn't mind seeing 14x FSAA in action!

I don't think it's going to be that much less expensive. And if you're running an ATI card at the moment on a SLI motherboard, it will be cheaper to upgrade to an Nvidia SLI config.

Looks like a good plan for the next upgrade, the new board with xfire card + 2 pci-x x800's.
:p

Why 2 X800 cards? You only need the mobo, the Xfire card + one X800 :D

Crossfire, sounds all good and everything.
ATi promised late last year that their solutions would come out Q1 this year, yet everything up to now is still pretty much hype. Why I won't get crossfire:
- You can't do crossfire with 2 ordinary X800 series cards. You need one crossfire specific card to make it work.
- Crossfire doesnt work on existing motherboards and chipsets such as VIA, SIS, Intel, Nvidia etc. The only way is to aquire a specific ATI R200 chipset mobo. Add another $150 - $200. I for one, won't easily give up Nforce over anything else, especially to newcomer ATi-AMD chipsets. Nforce comes a LONG way now. I bet its much more mature as well. R200 boards in SA seem to be real rarity at the moment (or am I wrong?). Can anyone show me any link to R200 mobos for sale in SA? Not everyone wants to go through the hassles of import shlep.
- Availability of crossfire specific cards in SA remains to be seen, in the next few months. I doubt you'll be able to just buy one from any ordinary PC shop.
The advantages of crossfire are rather pleasant. Though its a painfull and expensive path to follow, especially for us folk here in SA. Availability for all these new products is my biggest question. Comon ATi, put up or shut up!

You really are a fan boy, arn't you

Stormy man. It would be great if you did your comparison direct towards the Nvidia one.
BTW you know theres only ONE PSU certified for SLI Nvidia?
http://www.pcpowercooling.com/ Enjoy. It wll prob cost you 2000 bucks for the PSU alone. (otherwise check misc forums with ppl with pc problems and nvidia sli)
Also crossfire doesnt require the game to be enabled through drivers to support the SLI. Thats a bad shortcoming for Nvidia.
And regarding system compatibity. Who here has a dual pci express board ready for SLI??
So of course none of the boards are compatible to start with.
Its a silly comparison, since its 2 different systems completely. Are you going to glue another AGP slot to your mobo or what???
Bullshit
It is the same stupid fucked up this VS that comparison, where ppl chooses erroneus things that doesnt apply VS something they think applies.
This SLI stuff is for ppl that have alot of cash to burn in general to get a tight pc. It is not for general morons who think they can use their 440mx to eternity.
(that last stuff not involving you Barry :p)

This SLI is just for people like Alienware to break some performance records, who cares if the game runs 10 fps higher.

I still stand to what I know. ATi R200 boards in SA are as rare as chickenteeth. Maybe its just bad marketing. I haven't seen ANY review of any R200 board whatsoever on the net, since ATi released the chipset to its partners. Where are the boards??? I'm not blowing an extra grand or so just to have a board or crossfire specific card imported. SLI is definately the cheaper route for people in SA.
Oraaait boet, oraait, just take it easy, relax, take that anger out at the gym hey boet, just relax.
