Still play Unreal 1? I know alot of ppl still play both Unreal 1 and UT.
a site called OldUnreal (http://www.oldunreal.com/) has released some (un official) patches for both games.
OpenAL
True Surround Sound; you now can really hear where your opponents are, with 100% precison
Hardware Sound; the number of channels usable depends on soundcard
Support for Reverb, but unfortunately, not the originally implemented model; it's not possible with hardware sound.
EAX2.0 for different ambient sounds: zones within Unreal now have a special "ambience" for water, lava, slime, nitrogen and tarzone.
Music Output based on FMOD
FMODBecause of its' development state, this driver currently does not have all of the features that OpenAL does. However, it supports the original Unreal Reverb (echoes), like it should; this is obvious in Vortex2 and Nyleve. This driver is currently a good choice for low-end cards and 2-speaker systems.
OpenGLThe OGL updates are allow Unreal work with new graphics cards, supporting new features and increasing speed. One of main advantages is that "S3TC" (high resolution, better quality color) textures are usable with almost every new card. These textures can be found on the 2nd UT CD and installed directly for UT and for Unreal with a conversion tool. (Check the tools folder in your Unreal\System\tools directory for the tool, and a how-to.) A new project is working on an improved S3TC texture-set for Unreal, as well.
I am particularly happy about the part in bold for Unreal!!!
