I don't really know if there is a forum about these things in za, but ill ask here since there are older folk that might know a thing or two about business and patents.

I have quite a good idea/concept/innovation. Now I've read a bit on getting a patent, but the costs involved is huge and it covers only South Africa. Now I could approach an engineering firm, but I am afraid my idea just gets stolen and I don't get anything in return. Another alternative is to build a prototype with the help of my friends, but this could take a lot of time and someone else could come up with the same idea in the meantime. Once I have a prototype done I could probably get an investor and get a team together that will produce the product.
I have no experience with this kind of thing, and I don't want this opportunity to slip through my hands.

Now consider I have about R300 on my name, I am still studying, but I could probably lend some cash from my brother.

So any advice please let me know, I have no clue who to speak too, or how I should approach this.

Thanks.
