CGSociety has a terrific behind the scenes look at Unreal Tournament 3. The article focuses on the contributions of Epic's fine artists and covers weapon, vehicle, environment, and character creation. <blockquote>The Krall featured in the original Unreal Tournament as a low-poly wide-mouthed frog with a spear, supposedly a fierce warrior. We felt that this character could totally be transformed into a really mean looking beast, Jones says, and with some additional concept work the character maintained the tribal feel but also incorporated more of the UT elements that we look for; large bulk, adornments, armor.
The high-poly version went through a few further changes, going from more lizard-like to more beast-like with a more aggressive posture and facial features. Kevin Lanning worked his magic to take this model to the next level, using Mudbox and 3ds Max to create a seamless modular character.
