"White concedes that the current capping procedure is inelegant.
Once a cap is reached, although local bandwidth continues uncapped, a new email address and password is provided when more bandwidth is purchased.
A new billing system to be put into place soon will see the end of this dilemma.
Users, after reaching a cap, will be able to buy bandwidth in any format they choose, such as time or limited extra bandwidth.
In this way, users should be able to manage accounts more effectively and ensure that access is not abused. Unfortunately, this system also sees the end of uncapped local access. "
Ridiculous,
I'll phone them immediately and ask them to reconsider. I'm sure they will listen to they valued customer, and if they don't I'll go the another service provider,
That will teach them....
/*me wakes up, feeling sweaty and a little nauseous
August is also the month that Telkom hopes to have its one-megabyte service available to complement the current offerings of 192 kb/s, 384 kb/s and 512 kp/s.
Surely they mean "one-megabit"?
Anyway, things are basically going to get worse with this capping crap in other words, and the Telkom shit-eaters are going to get richer.
Nice
I wont be surprised if one day violence enter's the picture against Telkom :/
And from my original quote, "512 kp/s"? Kilo-pascals per second? Is that how much pressure you can put on the line before the cap breaks?
Such a badly written article can be a bit hard to believe though.

man i can't wait for these assholes to get competition.
So let me get this straight...
2003 - 3Gb Cap meassured as Intenational, Down traffic only. Local unaffected after cap.
1stH2004 - 3Gb Cap meassured as International, Up and Down traffic. Local unaffected after cap.
2ndH2004 - 3Gb Cap meassured as International + Local, Up + Down traffic. Local unaffected after cap.
2005 - 3Gb Cap meassure as Internationl + Local, Up + Down traffic. Local also capped at 3Gb.
Sheesh, I can see it now.
2006 - 3Gb Cap meassured per second, when used or not, Up+Down+Sideways, Local capped at 2Gb.
Screw em!

Did you guys read the last sentence?
"Unfortunately, this system also sees the end of uncapped local access."
That's beyond suck... It just simply blows!

well they can kiss my ass
the day they implement that i cancel my line

Me too Bio. A local cap of 2Gig is laughable... It's even worse for e-commerce. I shrug when I even dare think on how bad they hold our economy back.

Gotta love 'em boys ;) .
This is politically endorsed rapeage. Competition will never arrive guys. We too addicted and possesive of our internet connections, most will end up paying the fees. And thats a sad part.
luckily im not bound on a 2yr contract, ill cancel my line when they impliment that. duck man one can download more than 3gb a month on ISDN 64k, wtf is wrong with them?
"Unfortunately, this system also sees the end of uncapped local access."
That's beyond suck... It just simply blows!
Not a bad thing - but they need to perform their shaping more inteligently - the problem is technology for this is rare and expensive to implement, since the problem doesnt exist anywhere else in the world to the same extent.

Man this is so ridiculously stupid beyond comprehension, cant the government see beyond thier own single minded idiotic ways? Cant they see how they are killing the country slowly day by day?
Man, this is so sad its not funny.
One of those things that makes you go...wtf and then slap yourself silly with a hammer to make sure you arent trapped in some alternate reality controlled by two headed aliens.

19 May 2005, 08:16
well the article is written badly i have to agree but if they cap local traffic
they gonna lose plenty subscribers.
so in all honesty i dont think they will.
but Telkom always seems to pull the cat out the hat!!!

Actually Telkom will shoot the cat in full public view, the gov will cover for them with new laws stating that only telkom can now kill cats in public.
Lastly they will dump the cat in a hat for proper burial in the cement foundation of a new high rise building.
its beyond depressing, i think violence should be our resolve,
I will definetly be canceling my line if this gets implemented, and go back to ISDN, we must be like the only country in the world where broadband is ISDN.
And karny thats BS, costs of equipment MY ASS, in Poland a monopoly as well with telekoms and no competitiion in sight, but ADSL is 1/4 the price. So rare and expensive, where u get that? If a recovering, post comnunist country can give it at normal pricing, there is no excuse for what is going on here...

camel, they don't offer infinity call to new subscribers anymore, so ISDN will cost you an arm and a leg.
Well it will promote the use of 3rd party ADSL VAN's in afect ending the 3 gig cap but at a cost of around R300 more a month.
Infinitcall can still be activated, but you need to ask for it by name. It is nowhere to be found on Telkom's site (them trying to keep it quiet obviously), but it is still available to all dial-up users. Nowadays there are rather peddling their Surfmore package (that is not compatible with infinitcall mind you) than push Infinitcall.
I would not be surprised to see it officially dissapear after ADSL subscriber base reach some magic number.

Are u sure Games? Cuz I seem to recall they said it will be still be available to current users but not new users?
Give me a link to the story then. There were a lot of rumours floating around, but never anything official from Telkom.
My dad ordered ISDN with infinitcall 2 weeks ago.

damn this dagga must be off or something. *hugely sheepish grin*
I see it was a hoax, so you ok then. :P
I'm such a noob! :o
Hehe, I think everytime someone visits Telkom.co.za and can't find Infinitcall under their services, the rumour starts again. :)

well, ADSL users definitely can't get infinitcall on their voice lines. Guess ppl with adsl are not supposed to have family that talks a lot.

They ripped us off with that too, they activated the 7 Rand deal on the wrong line and made us pay 3000 bucks because you dont get a written proof

19 May 2005, 14:25
I'd go ahead and sue them if I were you. I can only laugh at the incompetence of the 'beloved' telecommunications company.
All those arguments that we in SA are still developing just went to shit
Ethiopia is progressing ahead of us.
