A Tornado would not surprise me at all, I actually thought there would be one. ( I love extreme weather btw, wanna go storm chasing in the US :))
Well it knocked out power far and wide, floods, wind damage etcetc. During its peak, even with no power, it was not dark, at all, permanent lightning. i am not kidding at all. its was overboard. And jeez did it move jast, it was down to durbs and Umlanga in no time.
Deff one if the biggest i have ever been in, that includes some hectic Berg storms with half meter of hail.
It was awsome, and my poor car, damn thing leaks...

al gore is an ass ;)
imho climate change is over hyped. Its is happeninbg to be sure, Global warming has been happing since the last glacial maximum(ice age) around 10 000 years ago.
This change is reflected in the naming our our current epoch, Holocene
which occurs with the retreat of the Pleistocene glaciers.
Humans dont have as much impact has politicians would have u believe ;).

ok got some stories for you okes, from an oke in my office]
His neighbor (kloof) has a tree in his lounge. Right way up. Now here is the interesting bit. He has no trees like that in his garden like that. Alot of broken tress, but no whole trees.......so how does a tree land in a lounge from somewhere futher than say...30-60 meters?
Another one, one of the local schools has a big tree, a proper part of a Tree in the middle of the sports field. A proper sports field not surrounded by tree's.
Ok so basically there was a Tornado in kloof.
Cool hey :)

al gore is an ass ;)
imho climate change is over hyped.
...
Humans dont have as much impact has politicians would have u believe ;).
Well, I haven't seen the movie and I don't know jack about geology so I can't really make an educated comment on that. I do know, however, that there is no incentive for politicians to over hype global warming. In fact, politicians would rather we believe that global warming doesn't exist. This is because the fact that it may exist only puts them under pressure to stick to harsher energy reforms.
I know that Al Gore argues against the politicians and the media, pointing out that 100% of scientific journal articles written in the last few years support the view that global warming is caused by humans, whereas only 45% of media articles do. Even fewer politicians (especially American ones) believe that global warming is caused by humans. They want us to believe that it is a natural phenomenon.
Global Warming over hyped? I think you are just a little too relaxed. I saw the movie inconvenient truth and some of those facts the the 'ass' al gore points out does not sound like anything over-hyped. and obviously he is going to disagree with what the politicians and media says, because they are the ones saying its not true. the politicians will deny it because then there would be money loss in trade and taxes if energy use was limited or produced without burning fossil fuels, they'd lose their money and their mansion. most of the media today will support the facts of global warming. The Star publishes articles on global warming more or less daily, reporting on newly found research that supports the facts of global warming. only the media that support the ideas of the greedy politicans will say it is not true. that type of logic does not make sense to me, but oh well.
there are the different eras of higher and cooler temperatures like the ice age. but the temperature on earth has already exceeded what the average temperature should be. the temperature has been rising for hundreds/thousands of years now, but we are already overdue on the next major climate change. global temperatures should now be going down, but it is actually going up. if you also look at statistics from research done from when CFCs where first introduced into the market in the 1960s, you will see a decrease in ozone and an increase in CFCs in the atmosphere. decrease in ozone and increase in CFCs means that the light rays from the sun, which are heat, get trapped within the atmosphere, which have numerous negative effects. F.e. desertification, melting ice caps, increased precipitation, increased temperatures, rising of sea levels, distortion of normal seasonal cycles, death plant habitat, disruption of animal ecosystems. it goes on, because this 'mambo jambo global warming stuff' affects our EARTH. our fucking home. so with people consistently polluting and neglecting the fact that our home is a living thing. without earth, we would not exist. and with destroying this earth, you are destroying our existence. no how would you feel about that. you wouldnt feel anything, cause you would be dead...
yes, many of the things said in todays media can be seen as either crap or controversial. but when we have the straight up facts and physical proof around us, then how can we say its not true or its wrong. it does not seem logical at all.
politicians can make the sheep of modern society believe whatever they want. just listen to the Nuremberg trials or look at america and the WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION. fear fear fear. now with global warming, its the fear of change that is keeping us from accepting the facts

We had some rain the other day.
Rofl  Rahz3l
This global warning , imho has to be taken seriously, it has been spoken about since the early 90's . The Earth is a Macro living organism and as we know with the human body if the temp. rises by only a degree we get sick. And Mother Earths temp is going up and she is getting sick.
I just hope that the corrct steps are taken to slow this all down before it is way to late.

rite boys, cant say I am in the mood for an essay, cos it looks like that is the only way to clarify what I meant.
Basically I am having a go at good ol Al.
Not global warming.
Maby I should also go make a movie about it to get famous and you will listen to me then :P
Look it is something I do know quite alot about not just decided one day. Struma you are far from incorrect, but alot of the situation gets lots in the translation.
For instance, a volcano, If a volcano the size of Krakatoa goes, then we are buggerd, as it will pump more green houses gases and debris into the atmosphere than the last 50 years of human produced pollution, the simple thing is the earth can regulate this (ye it takes a long time), but then again humans could be aggravating the situation leading to the current predicament.
I honestly have quite a bit to sat on this but don't mind me, I just dont like Al. But Uni has not started for me yet, so writing an essay for u guys so u fully know what i actually mean is not high on my list.

Hmm, something strange about this picture, look closely, I could swear ... who could those two debenites be? :p
:D
Al Gore is one of the few Americans that actually make sense. Is Bush any better?
Yes, a volcano can erupt at any second, screwing up even more than we can imagine climate wise, but with global warming, we are the contributors. So why would we force such drastic change towards ourselves? Pollution has very negative effects on humans, so why would we want to continue to pollute? I just find it frustrating when people just brush it off as something that does not affect them or does not matter... Ignorance is bliss they say.
And its not the fact that Al Gore is famous which makes what he says more valid or whatever, but its the content of what he says. Paris Hilton is famous and 100% of the things she says is crap. With Al Gore it is not. David Attenborough also has a show called the state of the planet which explores what the earth is facing, and now there has been several cases of amphibians dying off because the temperatures in their ecosystem have increased so much that they are not able to survive.
The reason i am also saying all this is because one of my classes in school is called Environmental Systems, which explores everything that contributes to life on earth. In this day and age, discussing global warming is obvious in this class, so i have been learning about it for nearly two years now. so seeing as there is a discussion on global warming, i thought i would add my knowledge to the pot...

I just have a question. You always hear things like "this is the hotest summer since 1923" or "the last time we had a storm this bad was 80 years ago"
Alot of what we see are weather phenomena, and they are cyclic.
If we are to adopt "the greenhouse effect" on all weather out of the ordinary, then we have to assume that 80 years ago, when the same stuff happened, global warming was to blame too.
All te stuff I have read on global warming is more theories atm, there is no concrete proof about the correlation between 'the greenhouse effect' and the actual temperature increases (or decreases).
Maybe we are just a doomed civilisation, some greater power is putting us out of our misery slowly, before we self destruct.
@Scally : WOOT, I caught a fish, thanks :P BWAHAHAHA, had a double take there

it was crippies but thanks anywayz hehehe.
it was funny as, and I believe it is a shark
[N]Haja
21 Mar 2007, 12:52
LOL.
My mistake :P woot, a shark, now we can make some tuna!
Haja, look up so some graph data that shows the temperatures of the weather cycles over 100,000 of thousands of years, you will see that temperature increase is abnormal at this point in time :/
in 1970 they started monitoring a hole in the ozone layer which grew and shrank during the different seasons. the seasons which showed the largest ozone hole was during the time when CFC use was at the maximum for that season too.
yes, they are theories, but proven ones...

"The storm pictures below were taken during a North Atlantic storm February, 13, 1987 on an eastbound passage from Tampa, Florida to Ghent, Belgium with a load of phosphates. The pictures were taken by Capt. George Ianiev, who was the ship's Second Mate at the time. The big blue wave was the largest wave the ship encountered during the storm; seeing it hit the ship made the vessel's master question whether they would survive the storm.

And uhm for the people saying "global warming blah blah", if you watch the satellite footage, what clearly happened is hurricane Ndlela broke on Madagascar on about the 13th. The high winds rushed down the east coast and mixed with a front from the south causing another tropical cyclone. The excessive winds from this coupled with the high seasonal tides simply made for bad luck and a rare sequence of events.
The only problem here is that these retards in Balito built their houses so ludicrously close to the sand line. I thought that shit was illegal for these and other environmental reasons.

ye about that ship, i got it on an email with a similarly convincing story to yours, i got caught up in it,but ye i believe ur story quite a bit more to be honest. (no need to be a dickhead but then hey, gotta live up to ur reputation)
As for ur second post, fully with you on that, it is how I understood what happened.
I read in the newspaper(Sat Independent) the meteorologists from sa weather service "did not know what the hell is going on".(this after the storm that hit us).
Any damage to ur house or area?
edit: love the satellite image, looks like they redeem themselves some

O yes, right sorry buddy, been a little busy, had some rather unfortunate situations to sort out. They still not and my emotions are quite a wreak.:(
Bro weather/temps etc etc the world, earth been here 4 billions years etc blah.
While I can see the upward trend in av temps over the last 40-50 years, a graph of around 120 years in the earths history does little for me.
P.S I never said the was no such thing as global wariming or that it is not happening ;)
maby one day I will show u what i understand. Trust me it is not rubbish.
sorry about that :( hope stuff works out...
But then what are you saying??
LordScallyWag
27 Mar 2007, 17:10
Yo man, I have no issues with you, so let me come with a full explanation of the way I see stuff. You may then see what I understand
There is no point going back and forth with one liners.
Going to have to give me some time, I only have time at work for small replies and the rest of my time is taken up.
If u want, if it would help for school or whateva, feel free to use this as an essay topic. May help for prep of exams or summin. I could comment on it as I see,(just an idea).
half of my final is on it ;)
been learning about environmental systems for two years, so i think i'm set :P
but thanks anyways :) appreciate the offer...
agreed, a topic like this cant be discussed without writing an essay, as you can see from my first post :/ but its a topic not to be taken lightly...
