im pretty certain that there was a similar thread on the old forum, but what the heck.
I just finished MGS3 : SE & im in the mood to talk about gr8 games, so what are your top 5 fave games of ALL TIME? Stretching back to the NES days, if necessary. These arent necessarily MP games, then, obviously. reason being, is that the game that made the biggest impression on me was not a MP FPS, & it wasnt even on the PC *shock, horror*. So, heres mine...

1. Metal Gear Solid
2. StarCraft
3. Unreal Tournament
4. Metal Gear Solid 2 / 3 ( undecided )
5. Unreal Tournament 2004

Honourable mention goes to Chronicles of Riddick, but it's not old enough to be a classic yet :)

Unless I missed something, I found that game to be short/easy/standard FPS. What did you find so special about it ? Sure, it looked nice and thats it.

Gamos
04 May 2005, 09:54
In my eyes, Riddick did what Doom3 and Half-Life2 couldn't. It immersed you into a believable world and mixed some RPG elements with stealth and action. Many games promise different approaches to situations, but few deliver like Riddick, where stealth was often really the best sollution. It was also the first movie license game to really shine above the rest.

The whole presentation was just blockbuster Hollywood type quality, right down to the unlockable making-of movie and bonus features.

Short? Maybe. But I find that to be personal taste. Some people found Half-Life2 short, others overly long and boring. Get my point?

Easy? Well, unless you played on girly mode, it provided plenty of a challenge!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course, but I found Riddick the most memorable FPS of 2004.

I'm with the Nali Cow. Riddick is by all accounts, teh gewd shit.

The gameplay is just so l33t, every player will play the game differently. Should you sneak around avoiding the guards completely? Maybe sneak up behind them and break their necks silently when their buddies aren't looking, and quickly hide the body in the shadows? Run in guns blazing and take out everyone in an extremely violent and bloody manner? Maybe take out the lights, perhaps alerting the guards, but being able to easily avoid them? In one part of the game you even have the option of putting on one of their uniforms and simply stolling through the whole area (you still have all the above options avaialble as well).

It's not just the awesome graphics, awesome sound, awesome voice acting, great AI, great setting, million ways to play every single situation, etc, etc, but it's one of the few games I've played that really, truely immerses you in the game. You BECOME Riddick, You ARE Riddick :D.

And the Commentary mode is pretty darn leet as well, it's keeping me very entertained, and is very educational (and often very amusing).

AAAANYWAY, back to listing top games... ;)

Lemmings was great! I know there's a Windows 3.1 version somewhere which actually runs under WinXP, but it would be nice if the developers could actually create a proper WinXP DirectX version of the original 2D lemmings. Lemmings also reminds me of "The Incredible Machine". Anyone remember that?

Hahaha, I just remembered now on which game my couzine and I used to blow most of our money on... In town there was a greek cafe and they had one of these arcade machines. Now, the object of the game was to uncover semi naked japanese girls with a little character which drew lines. When you connect two lines, the block is "filled in" to reveal whats behind, you had to duck and dive spiders and other goggas which bounced around the screen (it wasn't allowed to touch you or the line you were busy drawing.) Anyone else remember the game? Thank goodness my mom never caught us, she would've slapped my silly :)

Think my dads machine was also a ICL-XT :)

And you could get CGA to show 16 colors, but you had to drop the resolution in half -- 160 * 120 --- LOL!

There was a 16 color game that used it called styx -- very similar to your semi naked japanese girl game. Also had a little block which drew lines -- if the bouncing styx (sticks) hit you while you were drawing you died. No naked pictures on that game I'm afraid :P

I never quite knew what to do @ the end, when you got the chick in ur room (after the censored bit!) I think you had to go get wine or something, but I didn't know HOW to get in her knickers. Considering I was like 4 or 5 @ the time, was a miracle I could even TYPE some of the commands so I'd hardly blame myself 4 not knowing how to woo a lady @ such a tender age !!!!

I have very fond and not so fond memories of STUNTS. STUNTS truelly teached me a big lesson in life. My cousine and I were in Std. 9 I think, and we bought ourselves two al-cheapo R10 bottles of alcohol. I stayed in my own little flat next to the house, so we sneaked the bottles past the house and into my room with a sports bag. One bottle was some white clear coloured alcohol and the other was some coffee tasting crap.

It was getting night time and we opened the bottles and started drinking them clean (no mixes) and we started playing STUNTS. The more we drank the braver we became around the corners and the louder we got. (There was a physics bug in the game where if you crash at very high speeds you would shoot straight up into the air and come back down in a spiral). Eventually we got really pissed out of our skulls and the drinks were finished. We decided in our drunken state to chuck the bottles over to our nabours but instead ended throwing both against the wall instead of over it. Of course, that night both my cousine and I nearly barfed our longs out, messing up everything in the room and was sick for the next two days.

The big lesson we learned was to never drink and drive again. ;)

We used to play Carmageddon over IPX at work. It's definitely one of my all time favourites. It's just a pitty that they messed up with the later versions. :P

One of the first games I got on my old 200mmx was the Carmageddon Demo. Me and brother used to take turns just doing al kinds of stunts. Damn demo had a timelimit and only long after it I got internet access I saw you get a crack to remove the timelimit. Of course then I had the original for what ever reason I cant fathom now, I sold it... :(

Ta shrimp, I think I saw it going for under a R100 in the stores, will get it next time I am in town.

AAAANYWAY, back to listing top games... ;)

I must concur, best single player title in yonks. Im enjoying this more than Far Cry and HL2.
