heya,
Just something that I have been thinking about the last few days / weeks.
The regular players always hear how they spawn rape, slaughter, and just generally beat the shit out of new players joining the servers.
I was dwelling over when I first joined UT, in the ut99 days. Man did I suck, if i finished with a + score I had a big smile on my face. It took me over 3 months before I even registered near the top half of the scoreboard. Another 3 months or so till I was winning the occasional DM.
However, the point of the post is this : Everytime I joined the server, and it was quite, or there were just 1 or 2 guys on, I used to ask the regulars to teach me. Most of the time they did so,and even the most experianced player took at least 20 minutes out of their game time to teach me. If I never asked however, they would have just kept fragging me. Why? Cos they not mind readers, they can only help IF YOU ASK. Slowly my skill got better, and the cnstant questions I used to bombard players with all sunk into my head eventually, until I became the mean killing machine I am today (well, I own novice bots at least :P )
So what I am trying to say, is if you are a noob, or want to learn some skills, ASK on the servers, a simple "hey dude, mind teaching me this map?" would suffice, or, "hey dude, got any tips for me regarding aiming/movements" etc etc. I can gaurantee you 9/10 players will help you (if you are on a quite server, don't try ask for tips on a full DM server, it ain't gonna happen), ask one of the players if they will goto a duel server, as this is the best pace to learn, 1on1.
If i remeber back to the players who taught me, they were the likes of Doomy, Gamos (he taught me alot), Max, Naut, roosta and sooooooo many others, I cannot even remeber.
So in short, ask for help and you will receive, but we ain't mind readers at the end of the day :)
