Hey War...

I dont know much about gaming LCD's, but here's a review on one that i've stumbled upon that is quite interesting.
http://www.itreviews.co.uk/hardware/h952.htm

I've been eying this LCD as well cos i need to purchase 1 as well, so this will help me decide if i should buy it or not. The feedback from the other guys will help both you and i

i'm sure you can find one of thos Acer ferrari screens, 19" for about that price...

the screen isn't the usual matt black that stains so easily, it has the shiny finish that is so easy to clean and has an absolutely brilliant "black"

no "matt" screen lcd can beat those...

there are also some packard bells and other brands floating around with the shiny screen finish, but if i was you, for R3500 for a 19" you can get one of these LCD's more expensive than the standard one's but R3500 should cover for one..

Well, I see that the Prophecy shop has a similar model (not the exxact same, it looks like one revision higher, but with an 8ms response) to that LG, and it is going for almost R5 000! Link here:
http://www.prophecy.co.za/l1980q-monitor-p-1708.html

Personally, I would always recommend the Samsung Syncmaster range when it comes to monitors. That particular monitor that German weasel posted there is said to be very good. I have a friend who purchased one at the end of last year and he was very happy with it. On top of that, you can pick them up for under R2500! Here is a link to a very good price on that monitor. Just scroll down until you get to it.

Just gonna do some more research though...

Yeah dirt cheap, nice specs, and pretty in retro-kinda way. :D

I wouldn't touch Samsung with a pole. Every single Samsung product I have owned broke. I am yet to have any LG give me trouble.

damn, i must have fallen behind badly in LCD's

I would say that's far better choice than the ferrari screen..

Haja, i've checked out that ferrari screen before, it's a damn good performer as well, very very good picture quality, but that was about a year ago, i changed my mind, i will rather go for the LG above..

it's also not a "matt' black LCD.. it's shiny :D

Warhead, what i meant about the matt or shiny is the tech of the actual LCD panel, not the exterior of the screen.. look for a screen with "crystal clear image" tech and the shiny LCD panel... if you want a perfomer, a matt black panel just wont do it for you...

Ooh, now that is looking a little more tempting.

But I still like the Syncmaster idea. That link I posted had it at R2088 ex VAT.

Only Samsung product of mine that broke was those stupid CD writers they had going for a while. I think I knew at least three people whose also broke.

I think the Syncmaster is good value for money as well. I just needed someone who had experience with this LCD. Even though i'm still doing research on the LCD's, and after all the input from you guys, this LCD is definitely top of the list for now.

And i agree once again, i had a samsung DVD writer for just 6 months, broke, repaired it, broke 3 months afterwards, threw it against the wall (it was still under warrentee), and now i have a Sony:D

I'm a bit of BenQ fan, I've had the same BenQ LCD for almost 2 years now, and it's still sharper/clearer than most LCD's I've seen. Only a claimed 12ms response time, but I see no ghosting/lag (or whatever the term is). But keep in mind that monitor is only 6-bit, not 8 ...not up-to-date with LCD's these days, but 8-bits will give you nice smooth gradients.

Can anyone find any reviews of that LG one? ...all I'm getting is forum topics on it :(

WH i have an Acer AL1915 mine is only a 6ms response time monitor but they go as low as 2ms they have a contrast ratio of 700:1 i think, i play q3 ut2k4 css and a hell of a lot more games and my monitor has always delivered beautifully crystal clear colour with zero ghosting etc only con in my opinion is that the max resolution is only 1280x1024 but other than that its an awesome monitor

Here is the site with some information http://global.acer.com/products/monitor/5_series.htm it costs roughly about R3000 now but it gives great performance and has a great aesthetic appeal to it :)

GM<Jaymac>MF

Can someone explain to me exactly what effect the contrast ratio has. I know that 1000:1 is better than 500:1, but that's as far as my knowledge in this arena goes?

And Naut, that is a darn good price! Where do you get such good prices on all this stuff? Maybe I'll get one when I get paid for the current project I'm working on! :P

I have the Samsung 930BF. Got no series issues except that LCD's are generally not so good for movies and such. Don't know how it is now.
It was about 330 Euro when I bought. But i guess now it's cheaper.

Oh yeah, and I'd go with what Nautilian recommends because when it comes to these things, he does his research.
