Where is the best spot to check out the brackets, winnings, heck, even get the demos?
www.Arena77.com (http://www.Arena77.com) hasn't been updated yet.

I don't think they'll update that till after the event & i'd also like to have a gander at the stats...
Shame, i think Sip's in a crappy group..!! He's got to struggle against his bro & then still Nick & if VC is who i think he is then he's also gonna give Sip a nice run for his money.!!
I was suppose to Train VC(AKA - 4ndroid, Nick) & at the same time get my practise in, but due to unrelated issues I couldn't... See this 4ndroid character use to play quake & was :censored: brilliant at it, then he went to CS:s & got into a clan called C.K, but rather decided on playing UT for the ESWC..
Just some useless info..!! :)

Quite strange how no :42 players go up against each other:P ...any way going to be good to see outcomes
its got to do with the seeding. each of the groups has one "l337" player in it. basiclaly, you dont get the better players knocked out in the 1st round, and ensures a much more "nail biting" round 2 onwards (and final). its not strange, its just that 42 happens to house some (the?) better payers of UT in za. look @ zero-1 & naut in their own groups as well (alongside the 42 players). it'll b kinda stupid knocking even ONE of 'em out in the beginning...
Well look at that, Nautilian is actually playing :P
Love to take a peek into some of those boxes :P
Nobody confirmed Naut being there did they?
Come on people! GIVE US NEWS!!!

Well Zero-1 just got beaten by Gandulf (7-4), I managed to catch some running phone comentry on the tail end of that game, sounded quite exciting.
Apparently MBurr won his bracket (beer in hand). Scrye lost to MBurr (So there goes your no 42 vs 42 comment). Nick lost to Knayda.
Mielie is winning his games obviously, didnt get any scores there.
And now I'm going out. Bye.
Oh..
And Nautilian didnt pitch... obviously another "personal commitment" probably involving some peanut butter and pork dagwoods I can imagine, rather disapointing.
I hear the whole ugly TA bunch did make a show though..
Thanx Karnaugh.
Pretty much what I expected. I should have played bookie. :)

I don't need to explain anything, but out of respect to ESWC and Arena
It is my Greek Easter and Friday and Saturday are really religious holidays to us, secondly it was my close family members wedding today and I would not miss it for the world. If non of you can understand that, well frankly you can go stuff yourselves (notice I am not swearing) and it is great that Haja pointed out something really important, I am not obligated to do anything I don't want to.
Karnaugh, if you saw me in real life today, you would shut that trap of yours very quickly my man, so please go play with yourself which I hear you are quite good at doing. Cut me a bit of slack you hobo.
Sorry to the rest that had expectations of me. Like they say, "$h#t happens"

Zero-1 is in winner brackets final. But im not entirely sure if thats true.
Maybe he comes from loser's bracket final and is now in grand final
That is pretty much all i know

Zero-1 knocked Gandulf into the losers bracket, 2 games to 1. MI is up against Mburr and the winner of that match will be up against Z1 for winner bracket finals. Not sure about loser bracket.

And Naut didn't know about this close family members wedding 7 days in advance? Greeks must organise weddings quick, I'll write to the producers of "my big fat greek wedding" and let them know about the flaws in their movie.
Naut, just stop the bragging on the servers, you didn't put up so now you must shut up.
Agreed, your excuses are bogus, son.
If you had all sorts of bullshit greek holidays and weddings you should not have made all sorts of noise about how you were going to go, and how you support UT so much etc.

I thought Zero-1 lost 1 match to Gandulf and then beat him subsequently?
Ye he dropped a map to Gands(and to MBurr), but has not lost a match yet as a match is best of 3maps. That means you need to win 2 maps to win the match (sorry just explaining the concept to some ppl that don't understand it).
3)karnagh has a biiig mouth but he wasent even there met most of the 42 guys actually pretty good guys very friendly was an awesome weekend good experience WT !!

And the final results are?

Hey guys the event was awesome!!! COngrats to everyone !! The atmosphere was great the organisation was great!! :D .. the talent and level of play was amazing !!
yeah max it should be finished by now the guys must be tired i know i was :P
PS: Thanks for all the warm up games jon really got my game right :D
Actually - I am not sure,
I came out in the top of group 8 (Naut woulda won there :) )
But i think Livid (Noomz) - beat me 2 games to 1
and kynada beat me 2 games to 0
The demos - I was told will able soon - either from arena77 or VC.
Congrats to all those who competed and made the whole event a huge success.
By the way there was a 70% turn up for the UT comp. i thought 50% would pitch so it was way better than I expected.
The favorite was b2p cause of practice. Not sure of the final result though . . .
The whole event was pretty awesome - If u havnt been to one of these - maybe consider it next time.

Results pretty much as Naut said, although one correction:
1. 42::Mielie
2. q6.Zero-1
3. 42::Mburr
4. 42::Gandulf
5. {TA}.Knayda
6. 42::Suntory
7. 42::Nick (correction)
8. n00mz
Positions 9 - 16 weren't played for, so past the top 8, there isn't any way to say who came where.
A few comments:
Firstly, congratulations to Zero-1 and Knayda for surpassing what I thought they were capable of. Zero-1 gave us an insanely close final, which mielie won 2-1, 2-1. (Mielie had to win twice, coming from the loser's bracket). I definitely underestimated the man, and he's done his part to prove me wrong. Well played. As for knayda, he went through both myself and Nick to take his 5th place. His game was solid, and he is indeed a remarkably talented player. If UT is supported in future comps, he will be someone to look out for.
Right, now the rant. The support from the UZA community was fucking dismal. 32 players participated in the comp - which means an attendance ratio of 59%. That's shocking on its own. Secondly, out of the original list we started here on the forums, only team 42, z1, knayda, sip, mudda, nevar, the a4a guys, the DFFS crew and the WOLF/LOTD bunch showed up. And I don’t even consider those last two clans to be part of the Unrealza community. Wow. Good going everyone. Way to go to thank Arena77 for supporting our game. I’m sure they’ll be delighted to run another UT2004 competition.
(Note: thanks to everyone who did pitch, and if I’ve left anyone out, I apologise.)
And, finally, I will accept no more “OMG!1!1 Teh_Bassielkisk si biased!@#!#!” from you people. Team 42 proved yet again that we have the most skilled players overall, and the next time I slate Mielie for the win, please remember that I have some rather convincing factual evidence, okay?
On the whole, though, a thoroughly enjoyable weekend. Thanks to everyone who made it that way.

To clarify:

Grand final:

Almost exactly like The_Basilisk said.
I just want to add that the seeding-by-frag-difference unfortunately encouraged spawn-raping the new players there. This was not done because the good players wanted to discourage them.
Secondly, I want to apologise to TA, who had a full team there, for never getting to playing them. Hope the weekend wasnt a complete waste for the guys in the open lan.
Otherwise, It was quite a fun (except for missing out on the tequila on saturday night)and well done to everyone that played.

Congrats on the victory Miele. I watched some of your matches and you played just tight.
Hopefully a UT lan can be organized soon so that we can get some games going and that you can drink too.
For me and Vortex, it was " a weekend wasted is not a wasted weekend", so we had fun anyways.
Good luck in France
Teh Sama!@#!@#!@# :D OOOIII Lets go hide in prison for a minute and horde vials ;p. Well Done to everyone for playing, pity alot of people didn't show up. Unfortunately no UT player will be sent over this year, if you want more info ask The_Basilisk

I don't know if server side recording was on, you'll have to speak to Warcow about that he ran the comp and the servers. Not sure what his email is but check the arena 77 forum
Five 42 players in the final standings. Mburr only had 2 lan practises, The_Basilisk only had 5, Mielie had 5, Gandulf had 2, Scrye had 1 and I had about 4 heh ;p

Apoligy almost accepted for now :P , was rather very disapointing not to get any decent ctf games in, and because of that it was a waste of time, at least we got to come and support our members and UT.
Still like I said very dissapointing that we never had the team games going, but otherwise the lan was ok I think. Well it did start up some more duelling interest in our clan.

LOL, this amazes me, and concretes what most ppl say. Any one of the top okes can take any compo. One player gets a better start, or a lucky shot, or just out shoots the oke, and wham, you have a totally different scenario. The top guys really seem to be playing on a par atm, and this kind of competition can only increase the skill in SA.
Now if we could organise more compos with these top 10 players duelling each other more often, who know, we could do very well when we go overseas next.

The winners of the Counter-Strike and WarCraft III events will be flown to Paris, France in July, courtesy of Rectron, to compete in the Grand Final along with 800 players from 51 countries.
Thanks to all the gamers that participated in this event and huge thanks to the sponsors for their continuous support of the SA gaming community.

Rectron
The Carousel
Intel
D-Link

Ut wasn't going to happen in sa in the first place, but thx to arena77 it did, even though the winner didn't get to go to france
Once again UT plays second fiddle, a trend starting back in UT99 days already. If I was a sponsor, I would much rather send Mielie, Zero1 and Mburr to France than 5 CS players that stand no chance.
PS - this is not a stab at Arena77, just a general observation over the years.
Hmm, what would a trip like that cost in total. I can always try and sort a sponsor ;) .
[N]Haja
03 May 2005, 12:33
prob the best part of 20-25k per person, depending on the length of the stay, and how comfy you want the participant to be :P
You would also need ESWC to recognise your tourney as a ESWC qualifier. I have no idea if you qualify a whole event or just certain games, but should it be per game, you will need a whole new tourney for UT as well.

No offence Gamos, but can any one confirm this?
Arena77 is partnered with ESWC and for an event to be a ESWC qualifier, you need that exact partnership (other organizations can't just have a ESWC tourney in SA). Like I said, I have no clue if it is per event or per game. If you are really serious about organising a sponsor, Arena77 will be your first stop to get more info. Email Len Nery <admin@arena77.com> for more info.
I am sure Basilisk could confirm this...

03 May 2005, 19:57
Oh, ok, cos I take this game sooooooo seriously. Thanks for the advice.
Look, tramping 600km to jhb, when u got a job, family, kids, and not much spare cash is just not appealing at all. Some will do it, as they have the time or the inclination, but others, like myself, prefer online play, as we can do it when we want.
I think support for games in SA will always be a bit low, due to the overall numbers of players, so I don;t know why we always surprised when so few ppl attend compo's.
Anyhoo,
cya
Why the hell do people register in the first place... and then not pitch up?
Myself, n1c, Trend, Black, Phurbos, Shase and his brother all drove up to JHB(from PMB and DBN) in 2 cars packed with 7 pc's + monitors, bags, blankets, food and other random stuff.
Loons, Vetoll and some other random guy did the same.
Zero-1, Manic and SiblingDuSanity flew up from CT.
Then you get people who live much closer than that... and can't even show their faces, after registering?
Don't pretend to support something if you're not going to follow through with it.
Thanks to all the people who attended. To the guys that got 'raped', don't give up =P and thanks for atleast trying.
To 42, thanks alot guys =) The weekend would have been shit boring without you guys there. Imo there would be no 'community' without you (not like there is much of one in the first place).

I agree, and I'm in the same situation (asside from the kids part obviously...) I could probably "afford" it, i just can't really afford to in terms of time.
This is why I don't put my name down (yes I know you didnt either, this isnt directed at you). I agree with n00mz, those people have alot of nerve to not bother pitching when other people took the initiative to make a plan.

03 May 2005, 21:11
here's R50 Noomz, go buy a sense of humour.
BTW, what was the full list of non-participants, other than the obvious one everyone is thinking of?
Do you have R49,98 change?
The only chance for South Africa to be represented at ESWC this year is if one of our players get picked as one of the 5 invites (you've to apply first). This is probably possible, as they always pick a South African. The other problem would be sponsorship. I'm guessing the trip, airfare + accomodation, would cost a minimum of 10k.
More info: http://www.esworldcup.com/2005/?act=about&topic=document_info&id_document=92
I'm sure the UZA community could help out with sponsorship?
Even 30 members pledge something? Couple of hundred bucks each? Shouldn't be a problem, check out the "How much do you earn" thread :P.
I'd certainly help out if possible and within reason ;) :P.

To be honest - if every person on this forum pledged even a meagre R50, I wouldn't expect to see half of them actually make good on the promise.
Can anyone here think of any workable ideas? Anyone know of any sponsors who might be willing? (Provided the ESWC selects a South African).
Sadly, that's probably true :).
I assume Mielie, z1, Mburr, etc will actually be applying for the invite though? :D
I sure as hell would like to see someone from our community represent SA, therefor I would donate R500 towards the cause, pm me with a bank account and I'll do the transfer, however if we cant raise the funds - I wont it back!!! Now all we need is 20 - 30 okes, especially those n00bs from Santon and Waterfall to step up!
btw 'Maritzburg rocks!

To 42, thanks alot guys =) ... Imo there would be no 'community' without you
wow so idealistic.. like any of you okes that went there would give a damn if there was an onslaught match for example... talking about onslaught, some of the guys playing there probably dont even know 42 or take duelling half as serious as everyone debating here. But you wrote "imo" so thats alright :D , that on top being my opinion too.

Do you have R49,98 change?
strangely enough, thats exactly how much change your momma gave me too :)
I am sure the better idea would be to find a corporate sponsor than to try and rally 30+ guys for a couple of hundred each. Who's daddy has a nice big company? :P

look man i have a reason why i could'nt make it ...and it's none of your bussiness either
but if we need to pledge to help with sponsorship i'll do it...now i don't have much but i think R200.00 should be cool from my side
besides if we can raise bucks here we'd probly stand a better chance at getting a sponsor when they c we r serious about sending the winners over ....if eswc actually lets us
i work for Afrocoll wich is a division of york international
if u give me the right info i'll be sure to make work of it to ask them
for sponsorship....as i have no idea what to say to them other than : we need money...

Um, im not excessively informed about these comps, but why is there a UT comp if he has to use instant transmission to get to Gaul? Or are they getting him a super-secret-plane that no-one knows about? Or are we just not important enough to mention...*sobs*

"instant transmission" hey? maybe they been watching to much DBZ eps

Aye, Bio...got tired of watching "real" anime, so decided to watch it again. One massive crit I have (& i never REALLY realised this before, but now I do), is that they DRAG DBZ OUT ! Bleh! It still is cool when eventually the climaxes happen, but in "non-Westernised" Anime, 26 eps go wa-a-a-a-ay quicker
