Ok, I have been running the released MS IE7 now for a while, and I personally have alot to say about it.

I use FF2 99% of the time.

I want to find out if anyone else has or finds problems with either of the browsers, and what peoples opinions are of each.

I'm not looking for replies like 'Omg IE7 Suckz0rs loOLllol 11!!', those should just be ignored.

Thanks, all responses appreciated.

Well, i've been a FF user all along, since the day i got access to the net, and i've tried Opera and IE7. IE7 isn't THAT bad, in my opinion it was pretty similar to Firefox, but firefox still DESTROYS IE, so my vote goes for FF.

I Like FF2
Why Do I like FF2? Because

But don't take my word for it or anyone else's word! Try all the browsers then make your decision.

Imo, FF is like anti virus and firewall software, you just can't go without it...

Z allready gave you the best advise... "go C for yourself" ...

ff and now ff2 for teh win

(it now fixes my spelling :) )

tbh I haven't given IE7 a shot yet but if I am happy with something (and I *wasn't* with IE6) I don't just change it - same with vista, I'll be on XP at least until service pack 2

LOL - my one mates a programmer, and despises FFox. He would only use IE, and even waited for IE7 to come out with tabbed browsing before he could use tab browsing.

Sigh, damn programmers, don't know what they missing out on.

Lastly after giving IE7 a bash for a while i think it's very unstable, crashed alot on me.

Thanks for the opinions :D

Hmm, I don't know a single programmer who prefers IE over FF. They're usually the first to start dumping on IE in a big way, and pimping FF.

Hey

I use IE7 - not because I prefer it - just because its on my pc and I haven't had the time to test and try other browsers. To date - I don't have problems... but mostly I have firewalls, and good packet level antivirus solutions installed - so it doesn''t matter what I use - pop up spam, viruses etc... just don't get through.

What I do like about IE7 since IE6 is the following:

Tabbed browsing
Multiple home pages
PHishing addon
Look and feel
Zoom function

amongst other little things

I'll try FF2 when I can :)

Trust me, he hates Firefox - have a look at his website: www.wickedorange.com

He's got some cool free software ;)

Unless you use very specific features of FF or do programming, there is precious little difference to the casual user. I use FF2 at work because I find it quite a bit faster than IE7 on this contested connection, but at home where I have 512K for myself, I use IE7 because it integrates better into Windows.

Huh? How does Firefox not integrate well into Windows?

Until IE manages to render web standards properly, provide good support for extensions like the awesome Adblock for Firefox, or have a downloader that works properly, I'll never go back to it.

Not to mention the nice history of insecurity in IE and the utterly stupid ways they deal with it like removing user functionality to somehow protect them from their own stupidity.

IE7 is probably the worst browser I've ever used, and I even used Netscape once.

The point Shrimp was making is that as a programmer, specifically working with web applications, you very very quickly find the hideous downfalls of IE and the really awful things one has to resort to in order to work around them.

Well I'm a programmer and yip you guessed, I like FF2. I still use IE out of pure convenience and laziness, but it does lack some features I want (that FF happens to have). I dont particularly like the look of IE7. Never thought I'd say this, but I actually miss the Windows typical menu bar (/slap myself/). Guess it just takes getting used to. Interesting to also see all the validation Microsoft now has for legal copies of Windows. Vista will be most interesting for the crackers out there I'm sure.

From a programming point of view FF does have some problems, and quite a few problems with rendering a couple web pages. Revenge actually told me the other day he's had problems with FF on payment sites - not exactly the kind of website you dont want to feel secure in.
I haven't tried FF2 out on these dodgy pages yet, but I'm sure I will soon.

O and Karn mentioned Netscape being crap(yet still better than IE)...FireFox has its roots in Netscape, since the alliance between Netscape and Mozilla when Netscape was going downhill.
So they did a nice improvement from Netscape 6 to FF2 dont you think.

IE definately missed the ball without including a download manager like FF (well I haven't seen it yet, correct me if I'm wrong). There are numerous add-ons for FF for this and lots more - do you see that with IE? No, cause they too damn secretive with their proprietary!

FF2 ftw!

A lack of competition is what made IE 6.0 such a crappy browser. So I go on my knees and thank Mozilla Gods for FF. That said though I use seamonkey (netscape) Operah, FF and IE7.0 and I like them all for their strenghs and I hate them all for their weaknesses....

IE7 does not run on SP1 or any previous Windows versions which puts it straight into the trashcan.

Neither of them render pages and CSS correctly (so far, I've only seen Opera do this). I'll pretty much sit on the fence. Any idea how irritating it is having to switch between browsers and refresh all the time to see if everything's going smoothly?

Although, FireFox does have some handy dev plugins.

I'm no Windows Expert, but why in the name of all things would you want to still be using old Windows, and SP1 still these days?

The mind boggles..

I'm guessing because he doesn't want the changes that SP2 make to windows?
