The most interesting is not the overclocked numbers, but the stock standard ones comparing Mhz for Mhz.

The E6700 @ 2.4 Ghz vs. the X2 4800+ @ 2.4Ghz.
114fps vs. 99fps.

This makes it very very clear why AMD dropped their processor pricing with 47%

Looking at the latest pricing (after decrease), you'll see that these CPUs are only R400 apart.

R3101 vs. R2694

I think AMD employed an effective counter tactic with their price drops.

It's especially interesting considering AMD are using an onboard memory controller as well.

The price cuts are most welcome (even though I'll be sticking it out for Conroe). It's a good way to go if you want to hold off on the high cost of DDR2 for the moment.

I think AMD is a better choice right now though. Once Conroe hits full stride there won't be much on offer from Sunnyvale unless they have anything new (not to mention fantastic) out by then.

What is a good way to go? AM2 and Conroe are both using DDR2. You get raped no matter which route you choose, and goddamn do you get raped. :(

I'd even go as far as to say socket 939 (and I was).

I'd rather get more of the same RAM in a better system than go for AM2 or Conroe (right now).

Ofcourse, it depends on a number of things, including (particularly) your finanacial stance.

The unfortunate thing about computer hardware is that you can spend the rest of your life waiting for "The Next Best Thing." I'd rather put any money, I would otherwise spend on my current machine, towards the next upgrade.

Yup, Conroe (and associated components) are not cheap at the moment but the performance does make it look attractive.
