Sup n00bs

Still jolling (aka working) here in JHB, but there are some rather pressing issues happening here on UZA with regards to bandwidth.

The site is being constantly raped stupid - on Friday we did over 800mb traffic. Nomie did some blocking on international rapist crawlers and next day it was down to 85mb. Keep in mind we have a 5GB limit here - as of right now we are already way over that limit and may need to move the site to hosting in Germany any day now (which naturally means once you're capped UZA ceases to exist). I'm being pushed very hard to take this option (or pay R0.19 per MB over 5GB, at the current rate we do around 1-2GB over the limit everymonth - you do the maths :() at the moment as it's costing our hosting providor rathee large sums of money.

Anyway, I'm hoping to convince them to let us stay local. I was busy slapping together a new site before I left which is a lot more lean compared to the current one. I want to put this up ASAP to see the bandwidth impact it has.

Please grab as much info off the current site as possible. I'll back it up safely, but if there's anything you want now, get it ASAP. Please DON'T use some form of mirror or website download tool, we can't afford the bandwidth at the moment, rather just get what you need. The contents of the Tips pages can be moved to the Help and Tips forum.

Hoping to do it early tomorrow morning, so please hurry.

Cya again soon... (I hope)

Cant you just turn the site off to guests and visitors?
Only let registered people see whats on the forums.

Only thing is you might get more international members.

yeah... why not, atleast then you wont see most members for Half a month at a time, durrrr.

Did you also notice, that shrimp actually wants to keep it local "I'm hoping to convince them to let us stay local." ....so its not actually him that wants to move it, its the hosting company.

I dont think its fair that Shrimp has to pay the price just because you lot cant keep within your cap every month.

If it were not for that, this site could be hosted for free. This discussion has been had many times.

Maybe host the site on a FTP like thing, with one ADSL cheap ass account, sure it will cap soon, but it's too bad for overseas people then? Just a suggestion

Kill the Arcade games section. Theres numerous other sites available where you can play.
