Hmmmmmmmmmmmm 16 players in 1on1-Rough EISH!
I would rather have a 16 player 1v1
Well if this is online great, I am there! Just need a few more details, like which server we going to be playing on, game rules i.e. timelimit, weaponstay, powerups, spawn protection?

Thanks, Jaymac...you do that. Ideas on maps you would like to see in this competition?

Same as what Naut said for maps.
I'll only sign up if I can finish these two research projects before then. Sorry if I can't, but I WILL try my best!

Those are not really in order of preference, i think Naut was helping list the most common and most widely accepted TDM maps.
Looking good Bosbvok, should it remain well organised you can count me in as well, i would suggest you remain in contact with both Scrye, Nautilian and perhaps even Mburr, these are the more "seasoned" players and could assist you with some valuable information i am sure.

Thanks, Purple Haze!!! We remain very committed to SA gaming and we appreciate every bit of help from yourselves! We will revise the rules to let the mini-tournament to run over 2 x rounds (2 x 4v4) using the above guidelines. The rest of the information will stay roughly the same (costs and times), we will just run the 2 sessions at the same time over our 2 servers. The revised ruleset will be up Wednesday or Thursday.
Also, thanks, Jaymac - good louck with those projects, hope you find a gap!! :)

Okay ... Let me get this straight:
This is an online tourney = yay/nay
Entry = R57-00 pp
Players = 16
Prize Pool (ie the total amount that can be won collectively) = R520-00 (If all 16 seats are filled)
R57-00 x 16 = R912-00
Am I understanding correctly or am I having a dumbass attack?
How can an online tournament cost more than a real lan. there are no overheads.

Capitalism FTW!
I don't mind if the guys make a bit of profit... They're not doing anything we can't do ourselves for free, but let's give it to them for organising, and if someone's gonna complain then maybe they should try run a non-profit tourney where we can all pay, play and get prizes...

erm why R57 and not R50 or R60??
and how do you pay these dudes?

Hi all, a couple of answers to your questions:
1. On the cost of the tournaments, its R57 because we have to charge VAT (so R7 of that is VAT). whick m akes the total ticket takings R800 actually, with R520 as prize money it leaves R280 which contributes towards the overhead of running the game.
2. On the subject of overheads, we have a server to pay for, bandwith to pay for, admins to pay. So we are not making money off the tournament!
Big League Gaming is not out to make money out of the South African market at the moment, I can assure you:
1. The gaming market is too small to get any real economies of scale.
2. The number of broadband connections is too small, thanks to the high telecoms costs.
3. The cost of bandwidth and servers is very high (Try find out the cost of hosting a mid-range server in a tier1 hosting environment with a 100mb connection).
So why are we doing it? Well, we wanted to beta test the concept in South Africa, in our own backyard. Furthermore, we hope to get it to a break-even situation so that we can continue to promote professional on-line gaming in South Africa and grow a market that we believe in! Also, the more we grow the on-line gaming market, the more we promote broadband and the more pressure there is to reduce bandwidth costs.
Now that you have more or less the full picture of our intentions can we get back to organising some great tourneys! :)

Sorry, cyghost, I didn't answer your question:
1. We have integrated Mweb's Safeshop into our sites, so you can deposit via Credit card (mastercard or visa). If you need help with this, please give us a call on 072 776 4347
2. We also offer a direct deposit option, where you can deposit your ticket money at any FNB or do an EFT via internet banking. Our banking details are as follows:
Account Name: Wired2Web (Pty) Ltd
Bank: RMB Private Bank (but you can deposit at First National Bank)
Branch code: 202709 (Rand Merchant Bank) Cape Town
Account: 62092317489
Type: Cheque
With regards to the direct deposit option, we also offer the VIP account, which offers a lot of great options from a convenience perspective, e.g. VIP account holders simply call in or email us to enter a tournament which is simple and fast and a great option for our regular customers.

Just a quick question, since this is a 4v4, can we enter a team of 4? Are clans limited to the amount of teams they wish to enter? Is there any chance to delay the tourney by 1 week just to give people a chance to organise their teams and maybe get a little bit of practice? Maybe this will also give us a bit of time to get clarification on the tournament rules.

Ja good idea ! delay the tournament so that the teams can get organised and have a little practise.
They only been playing UT for 5 years and the clans have been together for about 4 years.
One more week is gonna make a huge difference.
LOL @ booooooogey
------------------------------------
Is the comp confirmed ? the 23rd - what about the logistics.
Which teams are in - what time - spectators - how many rounds ?
Have the srvs been configured - what ip ? can we use them for a test ?

there will be two rounds of 4v4 with the combined scores being tallied to decide the winners.
we are just finalising the rules after the feedback, and we will be posting the revised rules today or tomorrow at the latest.
I am happy to delay if there is consensus, I am just worried about potentially overlapping with ESWC next weekend unless that is a non issue for you guys.
Also, next weekend, we will be looking at launching AA tourney too
Sorry, you can enter as a clan, of course!
2. On the subject of overheads, we have a server to pay for, bandwith to pay for, admins to pay.
What server? I thought this was happening on one of the SGS servers from the other thread.
Try find out the cost of hosting a mid-range server in a tier1 hosting environment with a 100mb connection
I know exactly what it costs. You just chose an expensive ISP, and you don't seem to have a dedicated server at all.
This is all very interesting... I think I like.
where the hell can we c who you are playing with for
exp.
1.nuat
2.mudda
3.boogeman
4,biogizzard
5.camel
ext.
like i said in the other thread i need to know who i'm playing with pro's or ppl i
haven't seen on the net like noob's?

Ok, going over the posts so far, I've been looking over the rules and mods what you've put forward , so here's what we want to put together:
8 player DM
No superweapons
UTCOMP 1.6a
Enhanced netcode on
No Weapon Stay
No DD
No Super Weapons
Forced Respawn
No Adrenaline pickups
Players will be playing two maps of 20 minutes each, no top-end to score, with the winning scores being tallied over both maps.
The top player will be walking away with R130. If the tourney is fully subscribed (as in the match is full with all 8 players), the TOP TWO players walk away with R130 each.
We will move onto TDM, TAM, CTF and Onslaught in the near future with team winnings; this is more of a trial run for our servers, and the prize a way of saying thanks for helping us in the shakedown.
Oh and yes, no 1-1 maps :)
Yo choc,
what happend to
4 vs 4 Max
Weapon Stay Off
No DD
No Super Weapons
Team Damage ON
Forced Respawn
UT COMP 1.8
NO 1vs1 Maps
from the post above ?
it will then be ffa (free-for-all) death match.

Yup, to make the prize allocations work, DM will work best here. TDM and other fun things will come later.
In addition, a straightup DM will allow up to guage players when we want to eventually bring in teams, especially with things such as pickup-teams.
I think thats what he meant, only I stuffed up, there is no UT comp 1.8

Alrighty, tournament details have been posted, and you can find them on http://www.bigleaguegaming.com/tourney.aspx .
We are doing 2 8-player DM's, on the 23rd April, one at 19:00, the next at 20:00
First match will be DM-Campgrounds and DM-Deck17; the second match will be DM-Grendelkeep and DM-Campgrounds.

:/ wtf all my typing mean shit here or what?
Nope, I don't think your typing has been a waste at all.
We just seem to have a conflict here - the general feeling is that team games are the right way to go, but experience over 51 tournaments tells us that individual or FFA games are good to start with to build up a history of who are noobs or experienced players before getting into team games. This helps with balancing and match structuring, particularly with pick-up team games.
Am I correct? We have catered for the other suggestions with regards to maps, game sizes, etc.
I tried to register but get a error on your site every time.
I think they're fucking hacking!

Jaymac, we moved the games out until next week. We just wanted to resolve all these issues with you guys first.
Sneaky, we get about 10-15 registrations a day, so the registrations are working. If you want, I can call you if you PM me your telephone number and I will help you with the registration (worst case, I register you myself).
