View Full Version : The LAN "Rocked"
Just got back home, put my PC (et al) back on the desk as usual (Life shmife).
The LAN really kicked ass, there were power issues in the beginning, but we did manage to sort it out not too long thereafter (well at least compared to the time I was there).
It was good meeting the few of you I did manage to see around. Everyone was doing their own thing, which is good at a LAN I guess, but I would've liked to meet/speak to some of you a little more (Karnaugh, Naut, Gamos and a few others).
Overall, there are some exceptionally nice people around in the community. The only guy who creeped me out was Daweed, I don't think he could've helped it though. Purple Haze and Naut are definitely tied for being the loudest.
Thanks for a fantastic meet and also for the behind the scenes convincing some of you did to get me there in the first place.
I certainly support the idea of something similiar in future, great work!

Must say it was a realy decent time, and thanks alot to Purple for organising it. You seemed to be taking strain and we appreciated all you were doing.

Yo thanks a lot purple, the reason why i went is mostly to see da old schoolers and to meet some new okes, coz as most of u know, i dont really play UT. But the LAN got me somehow interested in the game again (to a certain extent). Let see what happens, Thanks Purple, Naut and every1 who contributed to the LAN especially Eradicator for supplying the 1gbs switch.
One thing i can say from the lans i've been to, People never look the way they seem:\
Yeah Igloo, the seating arrangements started out with clans sitting together, but soon turned into a wherever-there-is-space affair. Great meeting you, and all the other Najas.
For that matter, great meeting everyone, even the infamous Karnaugh and Scrye. :)
Loudest - BioGizzard! OMW, he flung insults across a 50m distance. :)
Coolest - Eradicator. Arranged many things, including a gigabit switch and shirts.
The power cuts was getting on my nerves, but all in all a great time. I have some mugshots I will upload (who has some hosting space?) when I get time.
In a nutshell, thank you to all organisers and everyone contributing to make it a really cool event.

I never expected anyone to be there that early, I would've been there in the early morning otherwise.

well i went and now im happy to have met all the people behind the nicks and come to realize some of the people i disliked are acctually cool and well thanx to all the people for the for the work they put in to make this a great LAN...

Please use flickr if you do use alternative hosting Gamos. Imageshack will treat each picture separately whereas on flickr all the pics will be linked to an account/folder.

It was really awesome.
Hell yeah, that Karaoke SUCKED!!! But alas! It could not drown-out Bio shouting "DOOOOOOOOS!!!11!!" at me from near the Airport. :D
It was awesome meeting all the people!
I send the photos to Camel to host, so I'll get em up tomorrow hopefully. Once up, we can add those shots of the okes I missed. :)

Edit: If you cant see the names properly, go and save the picture, and open it in paint, ie resizes it :(

Man, I had such a good time at the lan! Respect to Purple for keeping it real :) Seriously man, you handled the stress of trying to sort out the power really well and did an awesome job getting everyone seated and organized. Well done mate! Then, thanks to everyone who brought some of their expensive hardware to keep a good network going, I had absolutely zero network issues which was great. Thanks to everyone who were so willing to share all sorts of stuff. It was good to meet all of the guys, and it's good to put a face to the name.
Thx to the <A>'s and the GM's for the couple of clan matches, it was really good. Thx to the few guys for keeping me busy in the wee hours of the morning with a snotgun match, I've seen some of the best midair snot collisions in my life. :D I'll see if I can't stitch a short movie together.
Overall, it was one of the best LAN's I've been to. Thx for the guys who came all the way from Capetown and Durban and other far away places. Poor old dojee got a nice fat dent in his Tsunami case. The bastards at the airport aparently don't understand the huge red stickers which says Fragile.

the security bastards probably inspected it, cause they couldn't see what it was on the scan...most of them will bark if they have +1 on their iq...
they use a big ass arm to wack stuf from the normal conveyer to the inspection line....
this lan really rocked and imo was better than rage... i think we should make it an anuall event...

U sure it was me? I don't even remember who u were there (if I even met u). And how did I creep u out? All I did was play games, talk shit, DRINK, eat and walk about.
But thanks to the dudes for doing their bits + sum more. It was so cool going to a lan I was not involved with organizing at all. Just got to chill and take it easy.

Unfortunatelly both Naut and I had one server crash each! humph. Otherwise we would have had four servers for you guys - but I think the two we got up and running between Naut and I did a brilliant job.

YO! What an awesome LAN. I really wish I could've stayed the night, but alas!
Yeah, big hand to Purplehaze for organising, and also for the duel and the tips.
It was great meeting everyone, and obviously full of surprises. I even heard someone say that they never expected me to look the way I did (whatever that means.)
But yeah, good LAN all round. I eagerly await another one. I like the idea of doing an annual (or even bi-annual) event! That would be great.
Also, please post pictures. I grabbed about ten minutes of video which I'll edit and post up as soon as I have time.

DawEEd, I was the only person left plugged into your switch and you moved my LAN connection to another switch.
It's nothing personal, you just look creepy like that bad guy in the movie Swat.
This lan was absolutly wicked...
It was most deffenatly the best lan I have ever been too... The UT communty (or the people that were there) are absolulty awsome thanks alot for an amazing time to everyone that was there...
Aradicator: you are great, Thanks for everything that you did to make the lan run as smooth as possible (Network traffic was a breeze, Shirt were cool, and dropping of the guys in Cenurion was really selfless)
Purple Haze: you rock... Keeping us awake at the weee hours of the morning with music and sing along tunes... And also thanks for all the organizing and keeping your cool when the power from the powerstation we were sitting on was sucked dry!!!
Blade: thanks for all life veins of life you provided for us data vampires to leech off.
Acidburn: thanks for you pactience with me when ever the DC serve went down while I was leeching you dry!!!

Jayman u sire your profession is not being a leech man I think you took all 140 gigs I opened up and it was a pleasure to score you plenty man next i will have more space and more shit for you.

I must say that as geeks we realy do the job right I think it was Naughts machine that fucked up the power station man you know how to PIMP your machine. ;)

Shot guys, LAN was great! Good to see some of the legends, old and new faces. Hope we can do it again!
