Yo all, currently running Windows XP Media Centre Edition, must say its snappier than good ol XP Pro for me, anywayz...

I'm running an Athlon 64 chip, I just wanna know what benefits i will have by upgrading to XP 64? Will it really be that much faster?

And what software like Nero or whateva has currently 64bit versions of their applications available?

And if I should run a 32bit application under XP64, would it run slower, coz the way i see it, emulating back to 32bit, is usually slower.

Tnx all

There has been alot of debate about xp64bit, afaik it isn't worth using.

AMD does not emulate 32bit, its embeded, meaning its not slower.
some benefits:
* ut is quicker (get 64bit patch)
* other games like far cry go 480mb on patch and make the game slower but much more detailed.
* nero 7 works no prob, and deamon tools has a 64bit version,
* most drivers are there,
* my biggest drawback has been the HID drivers in 64bit are not complete, as in my strategic commander does not work, and force feedback devices dont work.
* so a bummer for driver buffs, but u can always dual boot, like i did, in case i didnt lioke it, but i do.

so Gozzy enjoy

I can't see any worthwhile difference in performance to be honest. If you are planning on buying it I personally don't think it would be worth the money.

Yo tnx for da replies...

Camel..i heard windows 64bit has like WoW or something (32Bit emulator to run 32bit appz in windows 64bit), wasnt talkin about the CPU.

From the linux days, ok i know this might not make sense, but from linux days, when i use to emulate Windows apps into Linux, most of the time it ran slower, so when i see the word "Emulation" im naturally thinking, slower.

So my question is, if i had to run 32Bit games under winXP64bit, will it be slower? Coz now the OS emulates the 32bit app in Windows64. Not that im much of a gamer, but I tend to upgrade stuff for performance :)
