Ok, seriously, can someone give me a valid reason as to why it's such a bad thing?
Fraud I guess.
I can run around as "Itachi_L3e7" and call you a :censored: :censored: and a :censored: because you're a :censored: and you should just :censored: etc.. etc..
Then go visit you and be all friendly and stuff.
Not if you do it with a 42 tag. Nobody likes 42 :P
Well there is the whois command, so it shouldn't matter..
But if the command didn’t exist I can see it becoming slightly annoying. It's always nice to kill someone you know, if everyone is smurfing then it takes away that aspect...
Nothing wrong with smurfing except the social aspect of knowing who is on. Saying hello to someone you know vs. someone you have no clue, is a bit different. Heck Scrye, even seeing you around is much better than smurf nick 26. :)

As Gamos mentioned, there is nothing "wrong" with using a smurf name, I do however like to see who's owning me on the server, I promise, I won't hold any grudges. Are you scared people will start throwing around comments when you play with your real nick? In fact, playing as a smurf usually does not get you respect from other players, cause who really cares who the hell they are, we all know they are smurfs. Remember that when playing the game the attitudes of everyone is usually much different than on the forums. There is really no reason to smurf. I fail to see the point, really, unless you smurf because you can, now there is a really good reason.

Anyway, I'm just genuinely curious why people hate it so much. I mean I only ever smurf as famous film characters. It's not like I'm trying to hide, the whois command kind of negates that. And besides I honestly don't see what it's got to do with anyone.

I already explained to you. I don't "hate" it, it doesn't make my life miserable. I don't have a black and white when it comes to everything in life where you either dig it or you absolutely hate it. Thats why its really easy for me to get over this and get on with my life.

It's stupid to smurf, when you are already in a clan. I know alot of people who come online, play as a smurf for a while, then tell everyone who they playing against who they are after about 2-3 people enquire.
That is cool, people like it when a smurf eventually owns up and tells his mates.
People don't like an obvious smurf(someone in a clan) who wont admit who he is after alot of people can see he's a smurf.

Well, it's still a clan and they still active, I think if they are a clan then they should wear tags like any other clan.
Why care about a tag? That is like putting MD. in front of your name when signing for your bill at the restaurant. That is really just nitpicking.
As long as I know Scrye and Mburr are online, I have a much greater time fragging (or trying to) them than Smurf487. The worst part is that the smurf goes on chatting like everyone is suppose to know who the heck he is. Get a nick and stick with it through good and bad times.
I throw this question back - what is so bad about playing with 1 nick?

lol. Smurfing can be fun, and normally is. I used to smurf cos I wanted to pop on, have a few games and then just log off. When i play with my normal nick, I feel obliged to chat, and see how everyone is doing etc.
However, I found that smurfing can be slightly "dangerous" as I would do well with my smurf nick, then when i revert to my old nick, I used to do worse. Yes, it is mind over matter, but somehow u seem to play better when u smurf.
One thing I have noticec is that ppl normally smurf, and then when they do well, and start coming 1st or 2nd, viola, they change their nick quicly, with a ":P" typed in. Dunno if I am supposed to cum in my pants with shock / surprise, but ye, whatever.
Smurfing, like most things, is up to the individual. I find the argument as pointless as "AMD vs Intel"" as u get diffeing opions. And what is smurfing really? PLaying under ANOTHER nick instead of your OTHER one? Weird really....
anyhoo, if u see a Naja online, shooting rockets every 3 seconds with a nick that look likes a clown has written it, then its probably me :P

Agreed as well.... my entire scrap with scrye was about me believing he would not challenge me otherwise... and strangely eventually it one, the more i gave him shit the more he gave me, then HE approached me for a game, i knew it was him.
Although we get owned guyz, some of us use you 2 guage our skill. We also like to know where we stand personally, if i play someone miles better than me, i always ask for their assesment of the game afterwards.

I'll admit that I much prefer to know who I'm playing against; but at the same time smurfing is a good reminder that on the net, the name does not necessarily equal the person.

I love smurfing :D It's all in the name of fun! I can't see why anyone should have a problem with it. I love some of the name okes come up with, why do some take it so seriously? Look ... even if I was doing it just to play anonimously, I have the right to do so and I don't mind if others do so either ... why should I?. It's not like I'm planning to do anything sinister like ummm .... join a clan pretending to be a n00b! ... :D :P

I've never turned down a duel... ever. I've also never moaned when I get raped 60-0... ever! Just Don't see the point when the game is actually all for the fun of it... ;-)
Anyways. I don't smurf mostly coz I never really felt compelled to, but if someone else does, it really doesn't bother me. I reckon you just gotta let the smurfer have fun whatever way he knows how.

Well I like to know who am I playing. When I play a smurf I never feel amped to play and just mess around etc. Then after those little mother fuckers won the match they all of a sudden reveal there true nicks in all their glory. "Whoo dude I owned you!@@".... "Can I join your clan now!@???¿ ZOMG" After you know that same guy you have beaten a number of times earlier. Quite frankly smurf just piss me of. I don't mind loseing to a better player, but to a smurf you never know wtf is gonna happen next. Maybe hes gonna tune you.."Haha you are really shit" Tell every mother fucker on the FFA server that he has beaten me or get god damn requests to join our clan. So whenever you smurfs duel me, be prepared to get spammed by useless callvotes, me just practiseing my trickjumps. eg me annoying you until you quit.
