heya,

Please could some1 help explain to me (the above mentioned) to take a demo.

Exactly what has to be typed when and if any special commands are need to make the demo changable between players on playback (if it is taken from my pc, but I do not think this is possible unless the demo is taken server side?)

so please, if some guru could give me the commands for taking the demo I wuld appreciate it :0

demorec <filename> ex. Demorec NautKlappingHaja
stopdemo

Stopdemo will automatically kick in with endgame.

Problem is that different patches, different Utcomp, different just about anything makes those files not work. First person view is just a mess!

When recording demos it's first of all best to make sure you can beat the other person on the server, you don't want demo's lying around where you've been klapped all over the place. Another thing is to have as few mutators enabled as possible since all of these has to be available when playing the demo, which could make it a pain for your friends watching your 1337 demos.

To play a previously recorded demo from the console type:
demoplay HajasDayOf1337ness

Personally, i think that too many user mods and skins and crap really mess up UT and quite a few other games. Its nice 2 get input from the community and some fantastic things were accomplished, but when it comes to things like viewing demos, there is so much crap circulating that one first has to download this mod, tthen get that version of that same mod etc. Its different when its just a closed circle of friends because we all know what we have, but as soon as we go to other ppl, things get so fudged up and it can spoil some good UTing.

To play them back you can also click on "community" in the main menu and then on the "demos" tab. The game will give you a menu of all the demos in your demo folder plus a screenshot of each and the name of the map. You can then select one and either watch it or convert it to an AVI file. Conversion takes long. Be warned.

I only have demos of me getting klapped, since you can only record what actually happens, not what you HOPE will happen :D

client demo's only record what u play ie. when u play online

when u make ur own demo in single player or on your server then u record server demo's where u can c all the players not just yourself

Ja and with client demos, duno if they fixed it with a patch, but if u press ur fire button while watching, u actually hear the firing noise of the respective gun, even if theres actual recorded firing happening

With certain versions of UTComp I also sometimes record, and then on playback can't see the players at all. I can see there rockets, grenades, etc and weaponflashes and also hear them, but players are completely invisible.

thats because u have one of the mutator serverpackages missing in ur ini file
